Quote: s a geologist, I think that Ammonite coin is beautiful... Do you have it "in hand"? Pictures, please Right, looks like Mongolian Bank has very good taste. there are a lot "tasteless" coins around, also from CIT, but these guys order traditional-innovative items, that will not shame coin collection.

Some correction for the actions, that MoneyPenney advised (thanks a lot for it!): Yes, NCLT went for 50%-70% issue, same was even with XforX coins... But the Big Coins set sold for 1860, while set contains only THree out of six coins. No 50c piece, and if I remember no Loonie.

If that is true, then on average each coin cost $630 (plus additional auction fee). Now that is rare, seeing a recent RCM NCLT sold for higher than retail price a year after release. Perhaps that winner wants the box?

Please remember that coins sold in auction required 18% buyer's premium on top of auction prices I recently won a 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf at an auction for CAD$1,271 ( 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin market price was CAS$1,550 at that time ) So I bought gold coin CAD$280 below market price Here is invoice sent from Auctioneer

It says 6 coin set with box and then it says comes with only 3 coins. At 1850 x 1.18 buyers fee + 5% GST = $2292. for 3 coins that work out to $764 per coin. Pretty expensive but I guess the premium was for the box. But the vast majority of NCLT was at a huge discount. I bought the 1/2 Kilo Howling Wolf for $500. Issue price was $1099. Even with the buyers fee, I saved a bunch of money.

For sure there are bargains at the auction, but not many.
Buyers just need to be careful reading all detail info before bidding
Otherwise, you might just purchase something way above market price.

Even with 18% buyers fee, there was huge savings for most coins. The invoice fee for my Howling Wolf 1/2 Kilo coin came to $617.88. The final price included 18% buyers fee, GST, and shipping. The issue price of the coin was $1099. If I bought it at the RCM, the price would have been $1175 including PST. So in end I save more than $550 or close to 1/2 of issue price. I would say 90% of the coins sold for below issue price even with all the fees included. They usually post the final prices in their archives but have not done so yet. I found the more expensive coins sold for bigger discounts than modestly priced coins. The Kilo and 1/2 Kilo coins sold for large discounts. The same for the Platinum coin that had issue price of $3000 but sold way below that. The horse 1/2 Kilo coin I was looking at also sold for $500, issue price $1099.

Forgot to mention one more thing regarding auction. Most lots ( items ) sold though auction, often stated " sold as is " Which meant no guarantee that coin won in auction is in mint condition. The Gold Maple Leaf that I won in the auction has few scratch marks on the surface.

Yes, auction that can bid online also has auction room which bidders can actually see the lot.
Online photos on lots provided by online auctioneer are not in detail images.
Therefore, risks involved if bid online.

I bought a coin a couple years ago from TCNC auctions was description as ms 65 , but arrived a 64 instant refund ,but beware of as is where is sales. Sad state for almost all NCLT, buy it for issue and lose half value.

These Big Coins seem to be holding up well, especially if the popular Loonie and .50 coins were not included in this lot. I doubt anyone would pay over $700 for just the box. Congratulations on the smokin' deal for the 1/2 Kilo Howling Wolf. Good score!

Yeah, sure congrats for the 1/2 kg Woolf coin. This one and the Cougar - one of the nicest designs.
