Maybe its why the mint is pushing so many x for x coins

They also seem to be pushing more and more - subscription series. Years ago, you were lucky to have the 'Olympic series' to look forward to every other month (in the years preceding the games)... Now, it seems that almost every coin produced is "First in the Series"...Then, much to your horror...there isn't enough demand, and the theme ends unceremoniously.

At least with the X/4/X coins they maintain their purchase power - if only at Mint stores and banks.

Subscriptions "lock people in" to finish the series.
Also, the "first in series" has driven "the market" for several years to appreciate in value.

Over time this didn't happen in many RCM or other mint offerings.
Can't continue to lose money on your investment.

If this

"At least with the X/4/X coins they maintain their purchase power - if only at Mint stores and banks."

is all we can expect then pretty sad.

Very true - to many series and coins.

While "the first" is popular when the coin's characteristics attractive enough for all : design, mintage, price, theme.

Let's say directly - even importance of the theme doesn't important at all:
Who cares for example, about Canadian Home-front? Not much - it freely available, not resealable and can't gain in value.

Sorry guys, people who not interested in RAM coins.

But here we have additional comparison between RCM coin and RAM:

Theme: Northern Sky coins.

As you remember, in far 2013 the RAM issued first curved (dome shaped) coin "Southern Sky: Southern Crux".
Not really impressive, but curved and bearing Southern Crux, which appears on the National flag of several countries. 10000 mintage.
Sold out without being hot.
But .... happened the miracle : coin won the COTY Award in 2014 and the prices skyrocketed from there.

In the same 2014 RCM minted Northern Sky series , not curved but GITD. What I will say......not bad coins, but personally didn't like, that stars (constellation) painted, and not silver crafted. So these coins went nowhere in flood of other series.

And now - we have again OUR sky coin (north hemisphere) - again from RAM - Northern Sky : Cassiopeia
**First in the (second) series
**Curved
**Mintage 5000
**Disadvantage - the standard RAM package (which is nice, but not the tin, like for Southern Sky series)

Decide for yourself if you want to have it.
Sold out from RAM, ebay has inflated prices, but the Coin Shoppe has some.

Good call, Silveroid. Looks like a winner.

The Coin Shoppe raised the price by $10 within a few hours, as did APMEX.

This seller is a little optimistic, lol:

You welcome.
I missed Crux, cause didn't feel the connection.
The Northern Sky - this is what I see from being a kid, but didn't like RCM series, while this one executed well.
The Coin Shoppe never worked with RAM (but with Perth), and the fact that he ordered these coins, "helped" me to decide towards it.

Regarding that seller:
I feel that this series will follow "Goddess of Olympus" - all jumped on it with target to re-sell.

I thought the RCM Northen Sky GITD series looked ok, but not worth the issue price IMO. Not only do they look painted, but also that wide border makes it less appealing to me.

If the border is well integrated into the artwork it can look great, like the 2009 "International Year of Astronomy" coin, or "Autumn Bliss" with the 3D effect of the canoe.

The 2016 "Geometry in Art: The Loon" is another example of a coin with a wide border that can work well because of this integration. I'm waiting for the price to drop to pick this one up.

which RCM coins are the sky ones. Is it the set of 4 with the bear scenes. I like those just not the issue price. Are you referring to the star charts.

well

either lower price or increase the quality
the GITD is gimmick for one series...No one observes coins in the dark.
That way we can observe any GITD sticker, no need silver coin for this.

Now it is clear, where are all the "rare" baby and wedding sets.
So nothing is "moving" and CA organizes frequent auctions to liquidate all.
