For the 3rd time in the spam of a month, Mariner Auctions is having another online " RCM Online Liquidation Auction - Coins, Banknotes + More". https://marinerauctions.hibid.com/c...otes---more/Unlike the last 2 auctions, this time, there are minimum bids set for many items. And many items, no is yet willing to make the minimum bid. Some starting bids, I think are set too high. I as a buyer, don't really like having minimum bids set, how do others feel about that? I guess if I was a seller I would want that. But I think that time, many lots will not be sold. Half an hour before bidding closes, 205/278 lots have no bids made.

Minimum bids are generally put in place to protect the seller - a seller is under no obligation to accept low-end bids and take heavy losses on the items he/she offers.
As such, minimum bids don't bother me - I understand the need for them. Yes, I sometimes think they are set too high, but the coins being auctioned aren't mine and so my opinion matters little to the seller.

I also prefer setting minimum bids on items. It saves me the time & anticipation. As a bidder/buyer, I want the lowest price possible for the item. When an auction site asks to enter in the maximum amount you want to bid for the item, I don't necessarily trust I will get the lowest price possible when you reveal the highest price you're willing to pay.
I've "won" several items only to find out after the auction ends that I did not because there is a minimum threshold. It's better to reveal it so that I can decide if I can meet the threshold or not.

I noticed that Canada Post has pulled all the 2017 coins that were 15% off. So unless by some miracle they were all sold, I think they will just put them back in the shop for the August 7th sale.

Without "self advertisement", can say that the secondary market offers coins with 40% off. Yes, they not "brand new sealed", but usually collectors try to keep the coins in great condition, and if seller is honest, the imperfections (if any) will be shown.

I've seen several Canada post locations that have coins from 2017, and even as far back as 2013. I've got some in the past for 50% off issue price. I'd bet the individual locations have recently done inventory counts and as a result, they are having "an amazing one-day sale". Likely, discounts will still be higher than elsewhere.

Quote: I can't find anyone having a black Friday or cyber Monday sale. This is absolutely sad. If the dealers / sellers by themselves think, that even sale will not attract the buyers.

Quote: I can't find anyone having a black Friday or cyber monday sale. Maybe dealers and Canada Post have changed their buying habits and no longer purchase large quantities of new coins from the RCM. If they don't buy as much they don't need to resort to mega-sales to get rid of excess inventory.

Just got an email from the RCM about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. No details, however, about what is being offered.
