Could the pock mark be from dipping?

The 'pockmark' appears on all Barber dimes. Best seen on a high grade: The 1907 is authentic IMO. The strike is not the sharpest for a Philadelphia. But still an acceptable example, AU 58. (Slight rub on cheek.)

My son checked his 1907 ones--the pock mark showed up on all but the O mint, in the same place--that one apparently is too worn to tell, although it showed up well on the not so worn ones. Thanks for the info. I do see it on the 1909 D shown on the section of this site about Barber dimes. Interesting--I hadn't noticed it but haven't seen a lot of high grade ones, either. :)

bpoc1, Yes. The area around it has always fascinated me. If the 'pock' cuts into a leaf it could be a variation of the leaf itself. I have no explanation for it safe to say it is always there. Needless to say, the dimes are my major interest and they still hold surprises for me. I came across a variety with several dies breaks, one of which I named the "boxing glove.' [Left hand - thumb down] The 'pock mark' is beginning to wear away.

The lighting could be hiding some of the luster. 63... maybe 64 if the luster is more prevelant. Nice coin

I fear she's been overdipped! Outstanding details. Perhaps sharper photographs could show luster, but the granularity close to the rim on the obverse tells me she may have seen something not quite right.
But gosh, that's a beautiful coin! My best guess from these photographs is MS Details, net 53. Hopefully I'm wrong!

I don't think it's real. Here's why:
- Porosity/roughness around the date - The date itself looks wrong - Extraneous raised marks around 'ONE DIME' - Denticles don't look right (compare to the picture matthewvincent posted) - The surfaces look completely wrong for a coin of this grade
