Here's an up-date on my order and the orders of the two friends.

The friend down the block received a cancellation notice from the mint. It's all over for her.

The friend across town received a "wait list" e-mail.

Tracking my order I find a "back ordered" report, which I suppose is like a wait list order.

And one positive bit of news. My daughter's friend, who lives in a nearby community, reports she has received the coins. Here's the funny part -- her order went in later than mine did!

More news.

My daughter, as well as another of her friends, received confirmation on their orders.

I'm happy for them, but still makes me wonder what's going on regarding our order, and that of our friends.

Okay, I'm not upset with the mint anymore!

FedEx had my coins at their regional center, and also I was able to pick up the coins for my daughter.

Coins are beautiful, in my opinion.

Only bad thing is it looks as though my friends, who ordered at the same time, are out of luck.

Very, very nice coins. However, these will probably be the only "First Spouse" coins we buy. Just too pricey.

Glad things turned out alright, Gary. They really are beautiful coins (I convinced my parents to buy a pair, purely for my enjoyment!).

Now I'm even happier with the mint!

One of our two friends who appeared to be out-of-luck, received her Jefferson First Spouse coin today. It was the uncirculated. She assumes the proof will be delivered by FedEx tomorrow.

So, I can't figure out "why," but things are looking up!

I noticed today, the uncirculated Jefferson First Spouse, is still available and is not sold out. I guess everyone wanted the proof version.

My last up-date on this topic.

The one friend did receive a proof coin, so now has both coins.

The friend who lives close received a cancellation notice. I can't help but wonder if the cancellation came about because the friend's address is on the same street as we live. Maybe an attempt to see that somebody doesn't pull a fast one.

Anyway, final results are that I received both coins, and one of two friends ordering coins also received both coins.

I guess two out of three isn't bad.

Gary,

Not to throw salt in your wound, but after hearing all the hype about the coins and being busy harvesting wheat on that day, I ordered the next day August 31 at 4:49 P.M. mountain time. Guess what?
I received BOTH coins today from the mint.

Go Figure!?

I have been ordering the Proof, and Mint sets from the US Mint every year, since 1993, and have only ever had one problem with shipping. It was just a minor glitch, and it was worked out with only one phone call. Alot of times the time it takes you to make a phone call, saves you the time and grief of wondering what is going on. I would rather know that there is a problem, and that I'm not getting what I ordered early, rather than waiting and finding out later its too late to do something about it.

Ok you were upset at some time with the mint

what happens if they stop selling COINS?

It is happening at the US post offices

Here is what is happening in the US

Postal Service removing all stamp machines
By Kathleen Kernicky | South Florida Sun-Sentinel
November 16, 2007
Need stamps for those holiday cards? Don't go to the post office, unless you're prepared to stand in line or pay with a credit card.

Stamp vending machines, where customers can buy a single 41-cent stamp or a book of stamps with coins or dollar bills, are on their way out.

The U.S. Postal Service is removing the stamp machines at post offices across the nation. By the end of next year, all of the machines will be gone. Customers still will be able to buy stamps at the post office window, online or at select stores.
"Some are being removed from the South Florida district now," said Debra Fetterly, spokeswoman at the U.S. Postal Service in Pembroke Pines. "Eventually all of them will be. The machines are antiquated and we can't get parts for them. It's not cost effective.

"And there are a lot of other ways people can get stamps," Fetterly said, adding that stamps purchased online or over the phone will be delivered within one or two days.

Stamps will still be sold at automated postal centers, those self-service kiosks where customers can mail packages, affix postage or buy stamps if they pay with a debit or credit card.

In South Florida, more than 120 stamp machines already have been removed.

"And here I thought this was a post office. This is ridiculous," said Richard rggoodie, of Plantation, who bought stamps last week from the machine at the Plantation post office. "How can you have a post office where you can only buy stamps if you wait in line for half an hour?"

Fetterly said fewer people are using the machines, generating less money to pay for the cost of stocking, maintaining or replacing the machines. In some cases, the removed equipment will be harvested for replacement parts for those machines still in use.

Nationwide, there are 12,123 stamp machines in postal locations. The U.S. Postal Service spends about $66 million a year on vending-machine expenses.

"In most cases, they're obsolete and can't be repaired," Fetterly said.

At the post office in Delray Beach, Virginia Henry fiddled with a lonely stamp vending machine.

She frowned upon hearing the Postal Service plans to eliminate the machines. "I don't think that's a great idea," said Henry, who lives west of Boca Raton. "They don't have enough staff to service people. If you wait in line, it takes 30 to 45 minutes."

Henry tried to get the machine to accept at least three different $5 bills, to no avail.

"Even though these machines give you a hard time about accepting money, it's still faster," she said.

Staff Writer Chrystian Tejedor contributed to this report.
