I recently purchased the 2015 edition of the KM "Standard Catalog of World Coins, 1901-2000". I ordered a new copy online directly from the publisher.

After a while, I accidentally noticed that page 1792 ends with Portugal, and the next page up is 1825 Russia. There are no pages in the range 1793-1824, inclusive, and the countries that were supposed to be there according to the index: Qatar, Rhodesia, Romania, and perhaps a few others - do not exist and are nowhere to be seen.

The spine of the book is intact and in the correct size for the (huge) book, and the missing pages don't seem to have fallen out or ripped out. The book seems complete and full, except for the gap in the content. It looks like it was never there.

I tried contacting the publisher, F+W Media using the support link and received no reply whatsoever. That was over 7 days ago.

If anyone in the forum owns a copy, could you check if it's just my book that is missing those pages, or are they all like that? And in both cases, what do I do? Is there a way to fill the missing pages. I certainly don't want to ship the book back for replacement, it would cost me more than the book did.

It is highly likely Krause has done a complete run of books with that error: It isn't surprising!

Krause has been loosing its credibility with a significant number of non USA based collectors for some years now. It now has a reputation for perpetuating mistakes and failing to make corrections even when advised. As for answering emails and communications I gave up waiting for responses 6 years ago( I checked my records)

I know one well respected numismatist who requested that his name be removed from the credit list because he no longer wanted to be associated with the publication. He saw such an association as now being a liability. My understanding is that it is not the staff who are the problem rather the owners of the publication. When they took it over they reduced the staffing levels and treated it as a cash cow. They do not seem to have made the investment necessary to keep the publication current and worthwhile.

Edit: I checked their Website: the 2015 catalog is no longer listed! I suggest you contact you bank and cancel the credit card payment to them and send it back with a letter explaining your actions. You will get a faster response that way than waiting for a reply.

Edit 2 Check out the Amazon Feedback http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Cata...+6th+Edition

There are fixes for Japan and Lesotho via PDF courtesy of another forum and George Cuhaj (I'll send the link via email to anyone interested) - however this is the first time I've seen Japan to Russia missing.

I bought the book 5 months ago. Canceling the credit card transaction at this point is impossible, and also I wouldn't want to do that. I got a spectacular deal of 5 volumes for just $99 plus $11 international shipping. The post office employees couldn't believe the gigantic package. I've paid higher shipping for a 2 oz. envelope with a single coin it, on occasion. Returning it could cost me more than the cost of that book.

I didn't notice the missing pages until I wanted to look up a Romanian coin I saw on ebay and found out that the entire country of Romania is just not there. I read the Amazon reviews about other problems that I didn't stumble upon yet.

I think the publishers, in an attempt to drive the price down, are seriously skimping on quality control.

I just checked my copy and it isn't missing those pages, but you have me wondering if I should check all the pages now!

If you purchased the book with a credit card, I suggest that you dispute the charge. As the product you received was defective.

I remember omissions like this - I know my library's 2013 catalog (and other 2013 catalogs at other stores!) were missing Taiwan and maybe Panama. It wouldn't be the first time that Krause apparently just forgets a country.
