Quite often, I see coins being bid up that just have me going like this one: 111545077282

To make it interesting...I like to stick the ebay coin against a genuine one and see what I can see--what do you see? For starters, those denticles are very uneven.

The ? coin looks like it has been hubbed off the original coin to make the new die. Some of the detail is not as sharp as it could be, and it has been presented to resemble a slightly worn coin.

It is always difficult to pick a good quality fake from pictures alone. If the ? coin was being examined in isolation using pictures only, it could very well pass as genuine.
That is why other tests and methods of examination can be of great assistance in picking good quality fakes such as this one.

The denticles are pretty damning, but what also got my immediate attention was the inconsistent wear.
The obverse portrait has a lot of wear, as does the shield/lion--but the crown very little.
They almost never get the date digits perfect, as is the case here. In the case of older Norway coins, the mintmark (crossed hammers) often is bungled. Here, it's isn't quite strong enough.

Thanks for playing!
