For some unintelligible reason, by the way, the German government decided to pick the shorter country code "D", not "DE", for the recent (2010-today) issues in that series. Which would be OK except that it almost looks like a mintmark. ;) So the "D" above the six o'clock star is the country identifier while the letter near the nine o'clock star (in your case "A") denotes the mint.
If you compare the design (top) and the minted coin (bottom), you see that the mintmark was moved from the "12" to the "9" position. Also, the designer's initials at "2" (which cannot be used during the anonymous competition, hence "XY") are now "Å'" - that is Erich Ott.

Today it is exactly 70 years after 'D-Day'. 06-06-1944 was the day that the Americans landed in Normandy (France). This moment was the start of the ending of World War II. Because of this anniversary France issued a commemorative 2 eurocoin: 'D-Day - 70th anniversary of the battle of Normandy'. I think this is a beautiful coin with a great commemoration. Next week I will post the coinroll as well.

Good design, I think. The quote at the bottom, by the way, is from Paul Verlaine's "Chanson d'automne". And while Verlaine had nothing to do with WW2 (he died in 1896), that poem had a very specific meaning for the operation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanson_d%27automne Mintage 3 million, I think, plus some in BU coincards and in proof. (Spelling fixxed. :) ) Christian
