Yeah, he said he walked it over and submitted it in person. Which I'm not sure if that's good or bad for me seeing as how he thinks the coin is questionable. I would hope that all submissions that are in front of the graders are anonymous? I would hate for an opinion to influence its grading process

That is how it is SUPPOSED to be and what the TPGs SAY they are like but some people may argue otherwise.

Rest assured that he will not have any interactions with the graders to influence them. He will walk it over to the PCGS booth with people to help with the submission and they will bring it to where the graders are. On a side note, does anyone know where the graders do their work at on-site gradings?

Dt T...

I'm still leaning towards an XF40 Details grade. If it was a walk through grade yesterday you should know something today. Keeping the fingers crossed!

Unfortunately it wasnt a walk through. I guess the great collections office is right next to PCGS so Ian walked it next door and submitted it on Dec. 30th. At this point I think a walk through at the show might have yeilded faster results?

A walk through at the show would have yielded results in about 24 hours.

Yeah, I guess it was a gamble. They say the turnaround is 5 days when submitted through the office so I can see how there might have been a chance that I would have had the news before the show. Buisness day #7 today. :/

Just visited PCGS website and they say that the estimated turnaround is 9 buisness days. Looks like we"ll be waiting longer :/ Hope it's worth the wait.

Walkthrough is very expensive, something like $400 if I recall. Waste of money... what's the rush?

I believe Ian would have told you straight if his doubts were strong enough, so his willingness to hand it over in person speaks to the importance he's assigning it.

Noplace we can see.

I assume they have a much more secure room elsewhere in the building, and they get that stuff off the bourse floor ASAP. For coins of the caliber to submit at a show, they're into heavy insurance liability and won't mess around. Perhaps a safe on the floor - bigger vendors bring in forklift-size safes - and one guarded movement per day.

No rush per say, I'm just a very anxious person. When things of this magnitude are out of my hands, I get very impatient. Not my best character trait.

They have a very large safe right behind the table. I'd imagine the coins are taken to the graders via armed guards at several random times during the day.
