I got this for $10. Huge book, it doesn't even fit in my shelf. Are these in demand? I don't exactly need it but I didn't really want to pass for the price either. It must be rather dusty - my fingers look like I've been reading a 50-page newspaper after flipping through it for a few minutes.

If you are interested in world coins, then Krause is an excellent reference. While the prices are out of date, you can check them at the NGC site or by getting samples of recent sales.
Personally I use the two volume 1991 ANA Centennial Edition, which starts at 1700 (but quite a few coins are missing for the early years).
If you are not into world coins, maybe you find someone who is.

It has been said to me that the prices listed in Krause are from a random number generator.
Not quite correct, but the older ones can provide some pricing history, and be good value for money, if you can obtain them cheaply.

Just remember they are printed on chlorinated paper to bleach it. Over decades the paper will degrade because of this, and you can expect to find that a 15 year old Krause catalog will fall apart with heavy use.

Lucky for me the ANA Centennial Edition (*) is made with better paper and my other Krause catalogues (eg 1600-1700) don't get very heavy use.

(*) If you ever stumble across one, it's definitely still a good investment for a world coin collector (even though some coins have been renumbered).

I wouldn't have guessed they were printed on bleached paper. They look like the Yellow Pages now. I'm not a world coin collector but I do own some world coins. This is great for IDing unknown world coins from the "instant identifiers" at the front.

I often look for catalogues in used book stores so I don't have to pay full price for them. Unfortunately most of them are rather old. What would be considered "cheap" for a Krause?

Up until recently, I was still using my '88 edition as a world coin reference. The pages are very much like newsprint.

These old catalogs are very common, if anything you may have overpaid as I've seen newer editions for even less (shipping included) on Amazon. But hey, everyone needs one and yes it is huge, they call them the telephone book for a reason.

That's still my go to book for world coins. I don't remember where I picked it up but I'm sure glad I did.
