Thinking about getting one, and have a few questions:

Does it come in 1 or 2 volumes?

How would you find out what the latest printing is?

Best/Cheapest place to buy freshest version?

You'll want the 5th Edition, usually coming in two separate spiral volumes. Volume 1 from 2008 has copper and nickel; Volume 2 from 2011 is silver Half Dimes through gold.

Edit to add: Wizard Supply has the pair, new, for less than $60. That's a good starting point for your shopping comparisons.

check ebay and Amazon I got a fifth edition from some goodwill in Colorado on Amazon for $4 plus shipping so $8. The cover had a minor scuff or two and many pages were still sticking together at the binding because they had never been turned. basicly a brand new book that someone dropped on the bookstore floor.

Hard to beat at the price.

You can always find out which is the latest version by going to the Whitman Publishing web site. They publish those.
However, their prices are excessive due to they really only want to sell to distributors.
