I love the toning on this coin, but don't know if it is artificial toning or what the grade would be.

That looks more like dip residue than toning to me. MS details. A proper dip should fix the issue, and I would call it a MS63 or thereabouts after.

It has that "oily puddle in a parking lot" kind of sheen on it. I vote artificial toning, but I'd try a dip. For now MS details.

What is a dip? I thought it was bad to dip a coin.

Wow. I don't remember the last time I played the "dip residue" card around here, but this coin is a poster child for the look. It could also have been caused by another chemical exposure, but it's not remotely what would be called "natural." I also see what looks like a distinct patch of older glue on the reverse - acetone would be a good first stop for this coin.

Thanks, I won't send it in. It is the only coin I have posted that hasn't been sitting in my mom's safe deposit box forever. I picked this one up at the coin shop to go with the Zombucks series.

I'm with Dave on this one. I've got a Morgan with the same issue.

I'll say MS63. With a little clean up it might look awesome. But I kinda like the way it looks now too.
