Just wondering what reference books I should use to get values for USA coins that will list MS 65 and PL values ?

Thanks

I just ordered the Red Book and hope that this helps me decide on value, as sometimes you do get conflicting information whether be on internet or coin books. I have also seen a Blue Book as well. It was pretty affordable ! Good Luck !

Books are obsolete the moment they are out. The time it takes to compile a book, print it, ship it to the bookstores, and the time it sits on the shelf until you buy it, makes the pricing outdated by months to years.

More accurate valuations can be found online in various sites such as Numismedia, PCGS, and NGC. Forum rules prohibit me from posting links, but you these can be easily found.
Rest in Peace

I use this site http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml to get a general idea of what a coin is worth. Real world values are really measured in actual prices realized on auction sites like Heritage, Great Collections and even ebay. If you are looking for a semi key or key date I would suggest due diligence in checking actual prices realized. Hope this helps.

BUT... On;y for pricing guides, as for books on research, history, and background knowledge, books can last for decades with very pertinent information.

The best way to learn grading, at least in my opinion, is to attend ANA summer seminar grading courses, find a very knowledgeable mentor/dealer, look at thousands and thousands of coins, at places like shows and auctions. Very difficult, if not impossible to learn just from books and photographs. There can be very subtle things about each series and even dates of particular coins that can change a grade (weak strikes, known issues, etc.) you aren't going to learn these things in a book, period.
