Not too sure what happened to this one but it doesn't look like a planchet flaw to me. Perhaps the nickel corroding from inside out, if that's possible. Report this Post to the Staff
west- canuk Valued Member Canada 497 Posts	Posted 01/13/2015 12:52 pm Sometimes there is a small air pocket in the planchette, when it is struck the heat produced from striking causes the air to expand, leaving a thin layer of steel, on your coin this layer has been worn through by circulation. It could have been a piece of slag or debris in the metal that may have worked its way out over the years or after being buried. IMO Report this Post to the Staff
