They were minted in the millions, requiring a hundred or more dies for some issues, and each of those mint marks was punched by hand. When considering that, it's easy to understand the variations in placement. New Orleans Morgans are fun to grade. This one is somewhere between AU55 and MS63. No, really. Either AU55 or MS63. Tough to say without it in hand. I also think it's been dipped in the last couple of years, and has just begun to retone. Check inside the reeding - look for little patches of toning about 1/4 inch wide where the tongs kept the dip from penetrating. Report this Post to the Staff
