Is it a "positive," i.e., raised from the surface of the coin? That being the case, it must then be a chunk out of the die. If it's negative, or embedded into the coin, then it's likely a strikethrough or planchet defect. Extremely cool, either way, but if it's raised, it deserves much closer examination. The possibility exists that, even if raised, it could be a foreign piece pf metal which got stuck to the planchet and struck along with it.
