Quote: i would assume it is because 8 of them would make one? sort of like half a quarter maybe? This is the most logical answer I can come up with. Eight of them to one bolivar. Venezuelan coinage is generally 'odd' and somewhat confusing. The silver coins were denominated in grams, with the bolivar weighing 5 gm. They dropped the 'gram' designation when use of silver was discontinued. That 12.5c coin is copper-nickel, and the series extends sporadically into the 1960's. There is also a 10c Cu-Ni coin. Meanwhile, here is another low value token from north of the border, with some 'woodie' effect; plucked from an auction lot. Get them while you can, folks; prices are rising and they are disappearing fast. ;>) 1946 CANADA 1 CENT OF George VI :

Well since it's past midnight now and we are finally on a year that I have sitting around so I'm going to post a 1945 now. So here's one of a couple War Nickels that I have.

1945 British threepence - perhaps this coin was in someone's pocket as they celebrated V.E. Day in Piccadilly Circus? The 12-sided 'threepenny bit' was introduced in 1937 to replace the silver threepence. The 'thrift' plant on the reverse was intended to encourage savings.

1945- Last year of the Victory 5 cents. 1n 44 & 45 because of other alloys needed for the war effort, 'Nickels" where made from nickel & chromium plated steel. In 1946 they reverted back to being struck in nickel.

Here's a coin with some character: a 1944 1/10 Gulden from Curacao - .640 Ag - minted under the reign of Queen Wilhelmina. This coin is a tad smaller than a U.S dime for size comparison.

1944 peseta from Spain. This was a one-year type coin and is one of the few pre-1982 Spanish coins that did not bear the date of issue inside a six-pointed star:
