Absolutely not the real deal - date orientation wrong in all respects, a typical flaw for the common fakes of this issue.
When I first viewed these new photos, I thought I saw PAF on the reverse, but I'm not so sure of that now. Some clearer photos might help identify other diagnostics that characterize this particular forgery.

You need to get a local dealer you trust examine this coin as quickly as possible.
The pictures do not show enough detail for me to give you an honest opinion.

You have more guts than I do. I would never attempt a 1893-S unless it was in a verifiable PCGS holder.
If you can get your hands on a VanAllen-Mallis attribution book, you should be able to tell right away. I do believe there was only one die pairing for 1893-S.

I'm with a lot of others here in that I'm not (and cannot) make a conclusion based on the photos provided. The good thing is his feedback though. However, (call me cold) any seller on ebay telling me their personal life to make me feel more secure in purchasing from them holds no water whatsoever.

As Lucky Cuss wrote - the date position is wrong. Send it back now.

Lucky & Dave, are you referring to the denticle identifier or the 3 not being high enough? Thanks

Both, but even if just one of those aspects were out of kilter, it'd be enough. There was a single obverse die used to strike these.

Yup. Only one die pairing in the VAM book. Just looked. Also looked at QDB's Morgan dollar book. That "18" in the date bothers me.

The authentic die has the 1 in the date at nearly 3 denticles, your counterfeit example is just 2. Case closed, sorry, it's a counterfeit.

When the time comes for me to purchase the 1893-S it will be certified by either NGC or PCGS.

I must concur with the others now, and also request that if you can get some really high quality pictures in good light in focus that I may add them to The Black Cabinet.

Yeah, the date location is conclusive.

Rum, you mentioned you also bought a 1893-P and CC. If they are raw, I would get those verified as well...especially the CC.
