I'm personally sick and tired of her face along with Wilfrid Laurier and a few other. Let's put a beautiful moose or a bear...a duck....even Pauline Marois will be different !

The coat of arms would serve as a decent replacement for the face of the British monarch. It would also be a good opportunity to redesign the 50-cent coin (and perhaps produce them in large quantities to get them circulating again?).

Considering how ''cost conscious'' the canadian government and the RCM (and the commercial banks) are I think there is and will be no intention to get the 50 Cent coin into actual circulation again. At least, as long as there is the Quarter coin. A 50 Cent coin only makes ''real sense'' when there's a 20 Cent coin in the denomination sequence (as in the Euro zone with 10c, 20c, 50c).

It would be nice, ...but... only makes "real sense" ( ) for the Euro type denominations. Also, cash registers don't have space for another coin, never mind the cost and time for handling etc.

It's not hard to predict where continued annual inflation is leading. Already today anything less than a dollar has virtually no purchasing power. The point of coin gets lost when it's only function is change. Add a zero to 10c, 20c, 50c and think Loonie, Toonie, $5.... It's probable that a $5 coin is looming at some point of time in the future.

How about the Queen as a moose, or a bear, that'd be fun.

I personally didn't think that the current "uncrowned" portrait needed to be done - I don't really care for it. I prefer the 1990-2003.5 effigy over the current one.

I agree. If we end up sticking with the Commonwealth, The design should be changed soon. If we do not stay though, the Canadian coat of arms, a bear, beaver, goose or moose should replace the monarch's portrait.

I say we go back to the 53 portrait, or the 1935 $20 bill one :)

Personally for 2017.. I hope they do something that blends the portrait of the 1935 pic of the queen with a current picture of the queen... that would certainly be impressive to me... in my opinion.

I really like the 53-64 portrait the best. I don't really care much for the current portrait.

I'll gladly take anything over the current horrific effigy Canada uses. Ugh. It's just embarrassing, and I refuse to buy any coins bearing it.

It would be great to see another crowned portrait, as it stands out as someone royal. I'm not a fan of uncrowned portraits, especially of the queens father. It is my least favorite portrait on our coins. I'm a fan of the veiled and jubilee portraits of Queen Victoria. A royal portrait should look royal. It would be nice if they'd use one from her youth, so the one from the 2012 5 oz coin. the young portrait on the 2012 $20 4 $20 would also do well.
I'm not looking forward to a king Charles on coins, there's no way of making him look good!
