It will be interesting to see if seller makes money on it, I can't see the first digits, but last 2 look like 29, should be easy to track down sales price.

He will make money I assure you. I am stunned he listed them all as quick as he did. We only picked them up around noon.I am really happy with the stuff I was able to acquire. It is really fun to admire totally original coins even the circulated stuff is neat.

Best I can figure, the seller got lucky and made about 10% profit after ebay, PayPal and Canada post get done with him. Either that or someone got a nice deal on one of the 1894 MS-63's ($212.50 vs. $363.00), the picture of the 2nd one appeared to show the coin as being much more red, which might explain the difference in price and the bidding war, but no last minute action on any of the 9 coins.

Brings up another question ? Why do people still use ebay auctions? Having a store with Buy it now ,best offer is a more viable way to make a profitable ebay sale. ebay is a much more sophisticated on line market than in the past and continues to evolve. An auction is pretty much only useful on an item where you really cannot research that item, in other words one offs or oddball stuff.. We have found BIN much more profitable for the bottom line. Compared to the old seven day 99 cent auction just a much better business model.

I was watching that 1859 forgot to bid and I think the winner got a sick deal! Not a bad price at all for MS63 with a little pedigree.

I am with you on that Pacific, buy it now is a much more consistent process. Only reason I can think, is quick cash.

Quote:Brings up another question ? Why do people still use ebay auctions? I agree with you for the most part on the auctions, there are 2 reasons I still use some: 1. Free up some additional cash for an upcoming purchase with some items that have been sitting dormant for some time 2. If there is something that does not come along very often and will a good number of people going for it... Tough to come up with prices for certain things when there has not been a comparable in the past 90 days
