Hi everyone, My ultimate dream coin in the $2 gold coin from Newfoundland. I'll probably never be able to afford one, but I like to drool over it every now and then. It turns out that my dad has had one for a while. He was looking through his lock box the other day and decided to show it to me, under strict supervision, of course. :P It doesn't matter how much I beg him, he won't give or sell it to me. Lol Erin

Just been to Wikapedia. "Newfoundalnd issued the only gold coins that circulated in a British Colony".
Not true.
The colony of New South Wales issued and circulated distinctive 'Sydney Mint' sovereigns and half sovereigns from 1855 to 1870 inclusive, before being replaced by sovereigns and half sovereigns of standard Imperial British design. The Sydney Mint Building still stands as a historical building.

What about Canada, 1912-1914 ?

I would have to agree with you sel_69l, I believe that statement about the Newfoundland gold pieces comes from Charlton and is thus accepted as gospel.
The Sydney Mint sovereigns were originally minted to just circulate in NSW before spreading to the other Australian colonies and eventually gaining legal tender in Britain herself.
The Canadian $5 and $10 would not count as Canada was no longer a colony even if we hadn't gained complete independence by that point.

John... give it time.... this type of hobby isn't about immediate gratification... sometimes people wait months or even years for a particular piece that they want to become available... save up here and there and in time you too can have one.. there's plenty out there

Thanks everybody!
It's a really cool coin and I'm glad my dad has it.
With the way things are now, I won't be able to get myself one for a long time.
But, my goal right now is to try and complete the 1919 Nfld 1¢ - 50¢ set. My nanny was born that year, so I'd like to have that set. I'm not to worried about the condition, I can't afford the higher grades.
Anyway, I can look at it whenever I want, so I'm satisfied with that.

Agreed 110%, lyradnoj! My dad is priceless!
I'm glad that we share a common interest.
I just thought it was really cool when I found out that he had the coin that's been on the top of my wish list since I discovered it.
But, Dad wins hands down!
