Well, I suppose I'll revive this thread with my stats from the West coast for comparison. I have only searched 7,040 coins since October 24th of this year, so this is nowhere near as accurate.
Liberty: 0
Buffalo: 2
Wartime: 2 (1943-P&S)
Thirties (Jeff): 4 (4xP)
Forties (no war): 35 (19xP, 7xD, 9xS)
Fifties: 51 (10xP, 35xD, 6xS)
Low mintage (sub-10 mil): 2 (49-S AU w/ roller damage, 55 + a 39-S from change (not counted here))
2009: 8(1xP, 7xD)
Foreign (excluding Canada): 2x Singapore, 1x Bahamas
Error: 1981-D straight clip, several D-mint MADs ca. 2000
Oldest found: 1913 T1 dateless
Other items of interest: 2004-D (can't remember which design) gold plated, 1940-X w/ MM area drilled off, a couple of 90s AT coins, 1945-2005 Canadian V commemorative

This is VERY informative and interesting! I'm out on the West coast... so it will be cool to compare totals.

Wonderful, informative article that I completely enjoyed reading. Your statistics are exceptionally useful as a tool to give others some degree of confidence in being able to accomplish such a mighty task.

Here's what I've done so far since 2/23/16 when I embarked on this new adventure through approximately 160,000 coins searched... On the very right are my Jefferson nickel ranks to date. Since I'm on the West coast, S's are are a little easier to find than other places, while P's are harder to find than most areas. That said, I do think that me finding only 1 1945-D, and 2 1945-Ps are statistical anomalies which should correct themselves over time.

Other things to note: Both the 1943-P and 1943-S War Nickels are relatively easy to find. In fact, 33 Jeffersons have been more difficult to find to date than the 43-S, of which I've found 23. Also, note that the 2009-P nickel is tied for #22 overall, and is the 13th most difficult non-silver Jefferson to find, with only 12 found to date. To put this in proper perspective, I've found 2 1/2 times more obsolete coins (28 Buffalos, and 2 V nickels - 30 total) than 2009-Ps.

Also (not charted), I have only found TWO 1990-D NO FS nickels to date. Without a doubt, this coin is much scarcer than people realize.

I usually don't support reviving threads that have been inactive for months, but I think this was a worthy cause.
Very interesting stats, John77! You have obviously searched a lot more than me, so your figures are much more informative. If you don't mind me asking, where on the West coast are you located?

Thanks, Numisma!

I've been looking for some threads to compare my stats to, and the starter of the thread directed me here after finding my thread on my 43-D find. I'm very happy he led me to it!

I'm in southern California, just north of L.A...

OK. I guess we're at opposite ends of the coast, then.

That "top 12 hardest to find" is also intriguing... Since I'm out on the West coast, I believe my S totals are skewed.

1943-D @ 157,298/1
1944-S @ 111,170/7
1950-D @ 77,197/0
1944-D @ 74,460/3
1942-S @ 73,112/4
1939-D @ 72,909/1
1945-D @ 64,743/1
1938-S @ 62,412/1
1938-D @ 47,737/3
1942-P @ 41,569/3
1945-S @ 40,817/8
1939-S @ 38,643/4

If things go according to plan, I should hit the 300,000 coins searched barrier on Wednesday. Will post some updated numbers when I do so.
