Hello fellow collectors,

I have been browsing through a lot of coins I recently bought and I was wondering what happened with this 1729 ECU Pau.
It sounds as a silver ecu and the weight is within range. However, the edge seems a bit odd compared to how an edge from a French ECU must look like. It is plain but crude. Counterfeit? Or was someone trying to modify the coin?

Thanks!

Assuming its genuine( I don't know this coin) It may have been mounted as jewellery or more likely been part of some form of silverware such as a Krug( tankard) or large silver plate.

This coin looks like it has been hammered around the edge. The photographs show flat spots on the edge, and the rim has been raised in a way that is consistent with edge hammering.

austrokiwi has suggested a very plausible reason WHY it has been hammered.

Looks genuine and agree it has been mounted. Is the weight correct?

The weight is within range. Thank you all for confirming my suspicion.
