Amac44, you right, money won't buy you happiness, but sure lets you pick your own brand of misery. Jim

Well the choice I would pick really isn't there as a single choice. I would save about 3 million of it to live off of, use 200,000-350,000 to buy a house/pay off all bills cars ect. and I would use the rest for helping out in some kind of charity that helps chronic pain sufferers in the US. I myself suffer from chronic pain that is extremely debilitating and it took me 2 years to find a pain management dr that could help me and without insurance my rx alone would be over $1600 monthly so if I had the money to help I would help anyone that I could that needs treatment for chronic pain and doesn't have the money to get that treatment. Thats what I would do with 5 million dollars.

Pay off debts, invest most of the remainder and continue working because I love my job. Maybe buy a couple of key date coins to complete those gaping holes in my collection. And set aside some money for charity that would continue to pay for years to come from the interest, like an endowment or something.

If I had that kind of money I would
Save some Invest some Give some to friends Give some to church Retire and Travel Just have fun with it Increase my coin collection
Maybe this makes me greedy but I would do all of the above

All of it, EXCEPT the gold coin, the cars, the island, the business, and probably move out of the country (assuming things improve in the USA with a new administration). I may inherit some money some day (not anywhere near five million or even a million) and I will definitely meet some coin collection goals. Finish the keys in my Buffalo and Lincoln set. Finish the gold page in the 7070. As for right now I am rich in many ways if not money.

I voted for starting a small business. There is no greater feeling than being your own boss. I would also give a percentage to my church and a few charities.
Whatever money is left over would go to my travel fund.

Nope, New Zealand is tooooo cold! I have a friend who lives there. Dustin, I'll take a gold coin--giving is the best! Besides paying off all my children's "I want that and have to have it now mistakes" (I know that's not a choice but giving is better)--I'd complete my dad's collection --every time I open it I remember the fun we had as kids sorting thru those lincoln pennies--he had one set for each child but only two of us wanted them when he passed! It's amazing that I've actually thought about this, even though it's only a 1 in 10 chance I will get 5m. Okay, 1 in 12. I'd fill a 7070 with strikingly toned coins. What's left over would go to the dogs (Humane society, etc.).

i voted have fun with the money...that includes just about all of the things you listed....investing, collecting, travelling, big ticket items, etc...would be my life--not mention the amount of hurting people I could help (we own an orphanage in brazil and it would be great to help the kids.)

First I would give about a million to got old Uncle Sam...not out of choice mind you ;)
I'd probably go with the small business idea. Open up a nice little deli/cornerstore/cafe sorta dealie. I've always thought that would be fun.
With the rest..well I'd just sit on it mostly. Through it all in the bank! I'd still be the penny-pincher that I am today so I would take the interest and cut it in two--half goes into my pocket to be spent (along with the merger proftis from my store thats comfortable living) and but the other half back into the bank, thus creating more money to gain interest on the next year. After I built up my account, I'd start withdrawing some every year and stuffing in my own private vault (could afford one you know haha). Buy some gold, silver and the like and just put it away for future generations.
Oh, and i'd buy some nice shiny keys dates! --Gary

$5,000,000.00. Not a lot, at todays highly inflated prices, but it would be worth 10 times that when I returned to Mexico! There the lottery is a great opportunity ti win. I have played, and I have won, and lost. The nice thing about it is that you win something, or the big one, you pay 15%, on the spot. Ine doesn't have to worry about paying the taxes on it, because the tax is deducted before you receive it. Incone tax there used to be 3% for business. No exemptions, no deductions. No matter how many kids, etc. 3%. You becha, Id'd be gone in a flash! And , I'd take my Navy pension, and Social Security checks with me! Dick

New Zealand isn't cold. Unless your friend lives on the south island way up in the mountains, it is pretty warm there year round. The north island only gets snow on the mountain tops in the winter. The North island usually doesn't get below the mid 30's in temp. Sounds like my kind of place. Currently we have had over 80 inches of snow already this year. And they are predicting 2 more storms this week.
