The following photo is all that I have to offer. I am asking for another collector. Thank you.

I see an AU-58, slight reverse wear. Cleaned? Dipped? Both possible, impossible to tell from those pictures.

Might even be original. If it was dipped, it was a while ago, because it seems to have retoned. Agree, better pics would help.

AU-55 or better.
With the nice silver and gray color I would lean toward it being original and not cleaned.
Very nice Barber!

Those look like scans, not images, so no opinion of the surfaces is possible because you're not seeing what they actually look like. Kinda like putting a piece of paper under a blacklight and asking what color it is.

Looks over dipped but if those are scans there is no way to tell until you get it in hand.

The 'contact' asked for my opinion as he/she was considering purchasing this half. A link of your response(s) was given to the contact. (I want to avoid compromising any trust.) I am much more confident giving opinions about the dimes but much less so the quarters and halves. I ... am not 100 percent sure that this half is without a possible problem. Maybe it is OK. It is beyond my level of comfort to offer a go/no go opinion. So any and all feedback is welcome.

Nothing wrong with what you're doing, Matthew.
I like the overall condition of the coin, AU50ish, but the "mottling" I see on the surfaces could be normal for a Barber (as you know they can naturally tone in odd fashion compared to other issues) or it could be recovering crom a stripping. So no conclusions about the surfaces from scans, except to say that this coin won't show much luster. Luster looks dark in scans.

If he wants a problem free coin I would pass. It could be ok but better safe than sorry

I could see it grading somewhere in the AU-50-55 range. The scans don't seem to show a coin with much luster which I'm not sure if its the scans or the coin.

I agree with the consensus, we really need better pics, not scans.. There may be good luster the scans won't show.
This is a fairly big ticket coin in any grade so additional info would be prudent before considering purchase.

Thanks all. The best that I could advise my contact was: "Without better photos I would hesitate to purchase." I really loathe having to make a guess on a single photo. It's tough enough to grade with the coin in hand. I have been looking on ebay and on other auction houses for coins which I already own as well as those that I wish to buy. Both TPG graded and raw. I am appalled at how the grading standards have be 'adjusted' to a lower standard. I am speaking about circulated coins in VF and XF. How can a 'choice' coin be covered with scratches? Well, not by MY standards.

From my contact:
"The Barber Half is being sold over the internet and the seller has added some new photos. I'm still not sure if it has been dipped or not. This coin will probably go for more money than I want to gamble with, so I'm gonna sit this one out. But again, Thank you alot for your opinion. It is always appreciated with someone else's opinion regarding cleaning."
So pat yourselves on the back everyone for keeping CCF's goal of teaching in mind. I passed on this topic to him.
