Hello from Park Ridge, IL (border suburb of Chicago). Just started collecting coins after going through some inherited coins from my grandfather. They sat untouched for years, so each coin is a surprise and I'm leaning a lot about grading etc. thanks to groups like this one and the Red Book, other websites, PCGS etc. So far a rewarding hobby!!

Hello, from the USA I was born in NJ until early 70s then moved to Western PA. I guess my first interest in collecting was in 1976. I received a 2 dollar bill as a reward for learning all the names of books in the Old and New Testaments in Sunday school. I was fascinated with everything to do with that years bicentennial and started keeping the few bicentennial quarters I found a 50 cent piece and when I found out about the stamps I wanted a set of them too. My father took me to the post office so I could buy the 4 stamps all intact. From then on I saved every shiny coin I found Or received until I was convinced the chance of finding something valuable was rare and to just deposit everything into a bank account and So my dad took me to his bank and helped me open an account. He explained how interest worked but I remember how disappointed I was. I didn't know what coins were "special" or not and as they took all my coins I imagined someone else finding a special coin I might have had and becoming very " rich". And if I only received 5 or 6% off the penny I gave them it just didn't seem fair. After that point everytime I saved 10.00 in paper and coins it automatically was deposited into my account. It wasn't until my mid 20s my late husband and I decided to start saving all of our pocket change in everything from coffee cans to large pickle jars. Occasionally when emergencies came up instead of using credit cards we would have to pilfer from or stash being mindful to keep coins 1964 and older. Eventually we started collecting framed collections and occasional silver dollars, Barber quarters Buffalo nickles, Mercury dimes wheat pennies and Indian head pennies. We continued throwing our pocket change into the big pickle jars with the intention of going through them someday in search of finding that special one that will help us live comfortably the rest of our lives. Well, I started trying to learn off the internet what we would even have to look for. My husband passed away 3 years ago and I started to separate the coins by dates, and condition while listening to countless video in the background. While I'm far from getting these coins sorted I have come across a few that have caught my interest and have started putting them aside to later recheck. I have quite a bit of time on my hands now and going through these has helped pass the time. There is so much for me to learn and I will be honest. I alhave a habit of shying away from asking questions, in fear of being laughed at or made to feel foolish for asking. I still have a fascination with earlier coins and I'd like to own at least 7 beautiful Carson City dollars so I can give one to each of my children and grandchildren. I really hope I learn a lot here and have fun too. Also, I don't know anyone in my area that has much if any interested in collecting coins to talk with or share stories etc. My female friends chuckle and think it cute and keep trying to push me to dating again but I think I'd rather stick with this first.

Greetings from Lexington, Ky. I'm here to absorb knowledge in regard to US Mint error coins. I've been an enthusiast and collector for about 20 years but just now catching the bug to chase errors. This site always pops up when Google searching questions, thought I might as well join. There is an incredible data base of knowledge here, it's amazing! The journey began a few weeks ago when I was gifted a batch of heavily circulated Eisenhower dollar rolls from a family member. Decided to look for the different varieties, purchased a cheap loupe and went to work. Despite them not having any value, I was so happy to find a handful that exhibit Mechanical Doubling. That led to chasing bank rolls and I lucked into a handful of very late die stage nickels today. Can't wait to learn more and possibly share some finds.

Hello Coin'ers. My name is Elvis. I was born in Bosnia. I was fortunate to survive the European genocide that took place in formally known Yugoslavia (at the time of the war *Bosnia*). The courage of NATO and U.S Forces aligned with the Red Cross gave us refugee on a U.S.A decommission military base "Lamboy" in Germany (Hanau, Frankfurt). From age 3 to 7 I stayed there, the American guards were my REAL LIFE TERMINATOR. They saved us. I pay homage until I die to the flag of the USA. My mother translated for the Military and my dad was a Concentration camp survivor that ended up leading group meeting for other PTSD war vets. We had to prove our selves worthy and waited 5 years to get our application reviewed to come to the United States. Around the time I turned 12 we're granted asylum, since we had no where to go. So we ended up in the "Show-Me" state. Ever since I seen the brave men of the U.S military kick ass snd save us. I've been a die hard America - over - all type of patriot. And of course with that mindset came. Here it goes. The good old Penny. I started saving pennies, dimes, nickels, quarter. Etc. One day my buddy's P.O.W grandpa told me about when he goes to visi JB (Jefferson Barracks Cemetery) *right down the street of my home* to pay respect to his fellow men he would bring spare change. Once I understood why. I wanted to make sure that when my buddies grand-pa passes on, I wanted to continue his legacy. I never had met my own blood related Grandpa's so this stud was my alter-father figure. With all of this and my love for coins and learning the power of the " Lincoln Penny" only grew as the years faded. Now I'm an aged patina cartwheel fanatic. That was cringe. Sorry y'all's. But I just wanted to say Hello, I hope my (True Double Die>Machine doubling) identification skill don't end up making me look like a dummy. I hope to gain knowledge and clear understanding between the "Types" of errors and varieties of all coins possible from experienced numismatic enthusiasts. The right way. I'll be posting on here to get some opinions on some coins. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I need to know a few things for certain before spending money with PCGS on grading. Money has always been tight andI don't have room for delays and disappointments. (yes I'm still broke, not much has changed y'all's . over the road trucking isn't what it once was). So please teach me y'all's. Hope I'm not asking for too much here. Thank you all. Elvis P.
