Does anybody have any info on 1878 s Trade dollar types?
I seem to remember that there were 2 types for the obv and rev.
Can you tell which this is or maby the grade would help?

Well it is a type II/II like it should be. The metal doesn't look quite right and I suspect it may be a fake. But if so it is a better fake than those you see coming out of China. A weight would really be helpful.

Other than the odd look to the metal (which could be the scan), it sure looks real. I believe it should weigh about 27.22 grams.

my first impression is that the coin didn't look right but I guess a scan may be able to cause that look (hopefully anyway) but I have no idea how to grade these things but if I had to guess I would probably say VF+ and maybe even a XF-40 that is given the coin looks totally different in hand as it does in these pictures (because if the color is correct this coin scares me)

It is a scan,the coin is a solid gray,nice original surfaces.
Scans always darken and bring out a horrible red in my coins
don't know why.

Looks like a solid VF-20, maybe 25, to me.
