Hi everyone !!

I cant thank Susan enough for this forum !!!

One of my first finds, from my own front yard after moving to New Mexico !!

1951 New Mexico Chauffers Badge , these are a fairly rare find in this state,,Ive only heard of a few others, and personaly only seen one other dated 1949, somewhere between these two dates the state symbol was added.

Nice finding Metalman, sometimes you can find the strangest items on the even more strange places, a few years back I went to search on a construction side, nothing much found there, but on my way back to my car, I kept my detector on, on a sand road to the street it went of, and I found a Duit from Zeelandia (Zeeland) 1754!!

After some asking around, I heard that the sand they used on the construction side came from the province zeeland, where they sucked it out of the sea to keep the shiprouts open.

So, you can see, stuff can be found on the strangest places!!

Greetings, Carl

Rick, that's a cool find! I wish I had the time to metal detect. I know my boys would love it and there's lots of stuff in the sandy soil of New Jersey.

Hi Susan

The Time required for a metal detecting outing is mostly in research of your area, the actual hunting is a one or two hour process as time allows,

You guys there in NY, NJ and the other States on the east coast have the best hunting grounds in the US, simply because of the populations that were present in early america

I have seen many very nice coins come from those states, as well as many very cool artifacts.

One of the best methods for finding prime areas to look is by overlay maps, I have done this for NM using the earliest map I can find and a succession of later date maps, use matching grid size and transparent copies, laying each over in sucession until you reach present day, look for areas that have remained relatively undisturbed ,by progress !! and then local history to pin point. things such as farms, water ways, homesteads, military encampments, fairgrounds ,and old dumpsites.

Happy Hunting !!

Rick
