Right then. I hope you can all see this. The coin is a rather tired Maria Theresa Taler from Vienna, 1930-45/50 (H57?). Mussolini had taken over Taler production for himself and limited Vienna to 10,000 a year. These coins were produced under a certain amount of duress and the dies were pushed to the limit. The crack runs from the X of DUX through the tail to the B of BURG, thence along the bottom edge of the inscription past TYR, where it branches left past the 8 of 1780, and right, through the ribbon to the left hand edge of the crown, out of the ring round the right eagle's beak near the C of ARCHID, finally fizzling out at the I. If you can't see it I shall try again later. Good luck!

Spyro, that seems to be a spectacular crack, worthy of a larger clear picture! I would be interested in seeing the tired Maria Theresa side too.

Not having much fun with this. The pics don't want to save at more than 200 kb. The two I've just done were less than 100... watch this space...

Here goes... pictures about the same size as before and lighting slightly tweaked. Reverse die crack most easily seen between X of DUX and tail, then below the 8 of DATE... And now... deadhead the Fuchsias and get ready for a cultural evening in Wolverhampton...

Thanks for the new pictures! Looks like the crack in the reverse die may have contributed an uneven strike on the obverse at 11 o'clock under "BO REG".
