I'm talking about gold scraps and such. I had a guy last night change his tune of a 10kt 10 gram ring from $300 something, down to spot, but he wouldn't but on some 14kt gold thing he was asking 3x as much as the gold content. I said I only do transactions in banks, and I must acid test it, he seemed ok with it. But he went from wanting (now I remember $260) to spot within minutes of me saying no, I can get scrap for spot. I'm thinking of passing on the deal and just getting few grams here and there for spot at 14kt instead of 10kt.
I had a LCS lose my business because they upped the per gram on me by nearly $2, after purchasinig it twice in the same day for same price. Long story but I made I post on it.
But my question is, do you deal with CL folk, and if so, from my experience so far, it doesn't even seem worth it. Last night also a girl messaged me a pic of an ear ring that looked gold and said, "how much"?.... lol seriously that was it. I responded, I couldn't tell u, unless I knew the weight and kt... she just stopped repsonding. I have just a small hunch........ JuNkIES.

Ya, I'd figure selling your coins is easy. I mean gold. People think they're selling in a boutique on that site. I put up my first strike panda to see if any biters would come along, so far, no takers.

It's a joke where I live. Everyone is selling cleaned coins or selling silver junk coins unseen for twice spot value. The sad ones are trying to get rid of coins from collectors mints or the world monetary something and wanting the over price amount that the paid for them. Hm a pound of unseen wheat pennies for $50 lol.

Selling on CL can work, so long as you're not being so foolish as to have strangers coming to your residence. Buying is more problematic. CL has been in the past a notorious conduit for unloading fake and stolen goods, not to mention being setup for a robbery. Extreme care is advised as to where and what time of day to meet to avoid being a victim of the latter.

No doubt Lucky. I will ONLY meet in a bank, and I won't go directly home or anything. You need to have good judgement. I have tattoo's covering my arms and some on my hands, but I wear clean clothes, Abercrombie, $200 Thorogood or whatever boots, very clean cut. But if some person roles up weighing 100 lbs and ratty clothes and displays the characteristics of people I've known in the past... (I used to do some questionable things in my previous years) and was around some very, very bad people. One would display his .40 cal glock on the counter when looking for money in his pockets after being up for 4 days straight.
So, you need to have some street smarts, and have some common sense. But, I tell the people, because I usually go after jewelry, and they've marked it up to retail, that if you're selling it on here, I know you must provide an ID wherever you go, and on top of that, you won't get half of what you're asking... then they stop msg'ing me. LoL. I've seen a bracelet on there for months... started off at $7,500 and I think when I looked yesterday it was down to $1,500... Stolen much?

I would really be worried about making any type of transactions like this on craigslist. It is a huge personal safety risk IMO that is just not worth it.

Silvr I've done a few and they turned out fine. I NEVER invite someone to my house, I own a phone where if you searched does not come back to me or my address, and you meet in a public place, typically a bank. Let them know what's going on, and I'm sure the'll be ok with it. You never give out your location, I never even use my real name if they even ask... Just use your instincts. If you grew up in a neighborhood like mine, you learn about people and become a little "street smart".

If you think buying/selling on Craigslist is scary, try doing trades on Armslist where you assume the other person is armed...lol
I've done plenty of deals on both sites, just be smart on where and when you meet and it shouldn't be a big deal. Don't use your main email address, don't give out your phone number unless you have to. And meet someplace very public and well lit.

Some of the police stations in MI have offered areas at their station to do any transactions.

I should disclose that I've never used CL - based upon the horror stories that are out there, to me the risk/reward ratio can't be justified. I made my comments on the basis that someone reading this thread might say to themselves, "Craigslist - that's a good idea!" without recognizing some of the potential pitfalls. Consider it my public service announcement for the month.

Craigslist is not good at all to be buying PM's or PM type items. Its a Burn waiting to happen at some point or faster.

To me, the areas on craigslist where PM's are offered are ripe with rip-off artists. Like a den of wolves just waiting for some unsuspecting young lamb to stray from the heard and suddenly realize that they were just in time for dinner. "Be Warned." Stick with reputable companies and people you know. Hey Stacker82, I think we grew up in the same neighborhood and hung with the same crowd !

I have done a few Craigslist deals, meeting in public places like Starbucks or McDonalds. I scored some Canadian mint sets under melt, and some antique silver coasters. Also a used ASE for $15. I think it can be good, especially since there is less competition than ebay. Meeting in a public place is good policy though. Edited by Misterpostman

Where I live in Indiana the Police Chief is allowing people to do Craigslist transactions in the Police station for safety... I think IMPD does it too...
You could always bring it up to your local Police Chief of Sheriff to see if they would be open to the idea...
