Is it a new discovery or one that's been around a while? Don't know the area.

Came out of a very old error collection, passed through a couple of hands, I recently sent it to PCGS.

I'm jealous! I am not a big error collector but I would certainly love to own this coin.

Crazy looking coin with the legends half there.
Really special silver 5 Cent coin, one and only .800 silver 5 Cent.
The reverse looks to be pristine with the metal flowing into the
devices, nice torch and Victory V.
The obverse may have been a bit weaker due to the lack of available metal to flow.
Thanks for the pics, very cool.

Interesting last point Nickelsguy. So this was not just a straight forward planchet error.

As you/SPP know well, there seems to have been an interesting little group of metal experiments at the mint in the 1942/43 time frame. At first I was thinking these were all some sort of test strikes. There wold be no reason to test a .925 silver though as a wartime measure. Now I am wondering if we had the parents of the 1969 mint employees guys working there then.....

NFLD coins were still being stuck in .925 silver during this time... nickelsguy and I suspect it was struck on a NFLD 10-cent planchet, but PCGS would not agree with us... regardless, it is a breathtaking error...
