1981-S Susan B Anthony Dollar Type-2?

justjimrob Valued Member United States 330 Posts	Posted 11/19/2007 11:32 am Miterman, I guess I am the first to be the bearer of bad news but this is a type 1. The 1979 type 1/2 are easy to tell because there is a filled S and a clear S variety and there is not much trouble in identification. For the 1981 S it is a little trickier. I usually look at the serifs. The type 2's have very bulbous serifs. Here is a picture: Both type 1 and 2 can be clear so that is not a distinguishing factor. Hope this helps. Bryan1315 Bedrock of the Community United States 14454 Posts	Posted 11/19/2007 12:44 pm at first I disagreed with Jim, but after reading this page http://www.bestcoin.com/Diagnostics...oof-Sets.htm he is correct in stating that even though it has a clear S the 1981 Type 2's have bulbous serifs instead of the rounded serifs this coin shows. If this were a 1979 it would definately be a Type2 but since this punch was introduced in 1979 (and referred to as a type2 for 1979) it is called a type1 for the 1981 series because it is the first one used for that date Report this Post to the Staff
