I hope someone will be able to give me some information about this coin. I assume it is not rare as there were likely many struck to celebrate such an occasion. The coin is in what I assume is it's original case. No picture of the reverse because the coin fits very tightly in the case, wouldn't pop out and I didn't want to force it.

I was going to post to the UK coin section until I noticed P.W.Wells and Co, Toronto on the shoulder of the portrait. Was this a Canadian medal struck to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria?

I would think this is a medal for sure. You may have more luck in that forum. That's about all I really know. Have you searched p.w. wells and co? That may turn up something too.

Is there anything on the reverse or is it blank?

I tried searching it for him and nothing much came up. I spent a bit more time on Google and almost thought I got somewhere going through an image search, but then I realized that the image I found went back to this thread and wasn't someone else with the same thing.

There was an interesting article or website thread(s) on these 1897 medals in either the Canadian Coin News or the CNJ about a year ago. There were, evidently, a good number of different medals made by various entities.
