Quote: Looks like the image was over-sharpened in an image editor. The image was resized to 500x500 using the Photoshop "Bicubic sharper (best for reduction)" method. This sharpening does sometimes seem excessive, and for that reason I've been using the GIMP Sinc (lanczos) method for some more recent photos. Note that the "dust" is also seen on the full-sized image, especially the reverse -- maybe the scanner did some sharpening automatically?
