Final coin I needed for my classic Whitman Canada type set albums! What do you think? Also, what is fmv?

Not in a details slab? Id definitely put it in one. If so, I think NGC said VG-08.

Not a details coin because at these low grades, NGC and PCGS allows for this.

If it was an au58 coin, it would certainly get a details grade.

Anyways, for NGC, I would guess they graded it (or should I say 'overgraded it') a VG and I prey and hope they didn't grade it a 'Fine'.

I would be surprised if this coin is without details. I'll go with "G" details (improperly cleaned).

Possibly in this case. Guessing is part of the fun! However to say it's the "norm" for either PCGS or NGC to not provide details on G or VG graded coins is incorrect. There are many coins in those ranges that have been detailed for improper cleaning. The marks on this coin are consistent with cleaning (consistent pattern in a single direction) which is different from wear marks which wouldn't likely exhibit that type of consistency.

TheCoinH....I only said 'you will be surprised' because the OP said so in the opening post, not because I knew it wouldn't grade 'details'.

The "hint" is that it graded G-6 or lower. If it would have graded VG-8 or better it definitely would have "cleaned" detail noted. Most grading companies will not include details on coins graded below VG as they basically are a detail coin.
I have seen exceptions but only on very rare coins. Example would be a 1921-5 Cents in G-6 may include a detail. This is because the coin is valuable regardless and the detail may affect it's value.

I just saw that at the bottom of the post. My apologies and I am surprised. Subscribing to the theory that some key coins should have details attached to G based only on their rarity makes the process of grading inconsistent. How do you determine what years should be detailed? I wonder if somehow NGC choses to determine a difference between "cleaned" as opposed to "improperly cleaned" at those grades. Once the graded is posted, I will send a note to NGC asking that question. Here is an example of a G detailed coin http://coins.ha.com/itm/shield-nick...0092-22554.s and here are many others. Even some coins graded "poor" get the details slab.

G6 for me as well.

It's interesting that PCGS/NGC will not put details when its in this low a grade
