Thanks Dave! I guess what I now need to know is, is it routine for the Mint to pass out both Denver and Philly free (now I know to YNs) at the launches but only sell Denver rolls (in this case) to the attendees? I have until Sunday night to nail this for my Numismatic News feature article and would like to include this information with as much certainty as possible. At this point I'd like to know if anybody except YNs could obtain a Philadelphia issue at the launch (free or otherwise) and how they would obtain one. Also, if COTW wants to divulge him name I'd be happy to include it in the article. 90%+ of my NN articles are front page so he might get kick out of this. If he wants to call my number is 313-268-3280

Tweek, John's column is in the 3rd issue of every month. What you are seeing it the online version which gets to collectors early. The same was true of the Numismatic News story that I wrote and appeared online about a week ago. I still haven't seen the hard-copy of that yet.

Tweek, CONECA did a nice job of promoting this too on the home page. I expect there will be a story in Errorscope. BTW, over 30 of these were found by one fellow that called me today.

Actually, handled properly a reasonable quantity, large enough to promote, could increase the value of the coin.

Quote: 30 by one guy! Kiss the current value good bye. That's not for the DDR-004, though. All of them that I see are going for 200. I think I could sell it to my LCS for more than that, though.

Yeah I have been crunching numbers and seems reasonable that someone of course will find a roll or so of these. But I wonder how many found is to many ?

I'd sock as many as you can get aside, because you can always let them go later. If not, others will save them when they are known more. You maybe living in an area that received a lot, but the rest of the country may get none. It was that way with the Wisconsin quarters. I'm 120 miles from where they were released and never saw one.

I'd say that if the country saw a few thousand of the WDDR-004 (the one the fellow found over 30 of) it would bode the coin well. That would be enough coins for dealer promotions in places like Coin World and Numismatic News. The more a coin gets advertised the greater the demand becomes (assuming the coin is worthwhile to start with). You'll be surprised how small a number like 1000 or 2000 is. Even on obscure coins like the 1984 doubled die obverse #2 cent, they are hard to find. I purchased 300 of them in the 1980s and sold them all in ads I was running in Coin World, Numismatic News and COINage Magazine (in the 1980s I was running anywhere from a quarter page to a full page in each issue). It took me a few years to sell them all at $25 each and then when I ran out I couldn't buy one back if I had to. Eventually, I had to borrow one from an old customer to get better images. I know 300 is a lot different than 1000 or 2000 but this Homestead quarter is a great variety. Much nicer than the 1984 DDO#2 cent. I think the market could bear a thousand or two. But that's just my opinion ... for whatever it's worth.
