I am assuming this is PMD but the weight is right on (2.50 grams)so if metal was added wouldn't it be higher? Maybe the rim damage from 5 to 6 oclock accounts for the weight being right? (metal lost there but same amount added so it cancels) or is the rim related to the anomaly? Someone tell me its PMD so I can quit staring at it and put it in with my other "junk" silver

Hmmm... I'm thinking a possible old stick pin jewelry piece but let's see what others have to say

I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave.

Sorry, I had to go there.

My guess is you're correct on all counts - the weight of the mount is offset by what's been shaved from the coin.

Isn't that added metal tin? If so, I think the actual weight of the lost silver/added tin should be about the same, counting with some extra worn-away silver.

They had it easy in the olden days (cheap anyway) I wish I could get away with putting a dime on a pin and giving it to my girlfriend for Valentines day or Christmas. I don't think that would fly-----A double eagle maybe.....but not a dime!

This is silver solder on the dime. It was done after it left the mint and takes away from the value. A stick pin coin almost for sure. My thoughts anyways. Also wear on the dime makes it lighter but the silver solder makes it back to about the correct weight.
