Hey all, I just worked my FIRST box ever of JFK half dollars. I pulled 2 Ben Franklins (62 D and 54 D) the funny part was the 54 D was my first silver, and the next coin after it was a 2002 P. How is that for weird! I also pulled a 40% 1969. In terms of the newer halves, I pulled 15 2001 P, 4 2002 P and 1 2002 D. Are the 2001 and 2002 P/D worth keeping? I kept them only because the Red Book said they were never released for circulation. As for my overall report, I saw quite a bit of 70s and 80s coins, if I had to break it down I would say 50% 1970s, 30% 1980s and the last 20% 90 - Present. I thought this was an awesome box, I would have been happy with just a couple of 90% JFKs but to pull 2 BENs on my first box was simplay amazing!! I will return this soon and start in on my next bos this week. My dad is coming into town and I will work it with him. Lastly, I didn't have any problems ordering halves. I just called and asked two banks and they both came through in about a week. So if the bank tells you they can't, they are BSing you, in my opinion. Happy Hunting!!

I believe the bext way is to try and find a "personal banker" or an assistant manager and ask them in person for the halves. You can try making up a story to get them (i.e. dad wants them he is a coin collector)
That is what I would try, I don't know where you live but I live in so-cal so it may be easier to get them versus a less metropolitan area.
In your case I would fall back on good old face to face human contact to make it happen. And request 500 dollars at least, as this is how they come and they can't really order 250 or 300 only.

if you have an account with the bank, then usually you should get them at face value only. For a $500 dollar box I pay $500

Some bank's just won't order them. I ordered mine thru Wachovia, and wood forestbank, These were account's I opened for coin roll hunting. My main bank is Navy federal, and even thou I pay them hundreds of dollars a year in intrest form credit cards, and loans, they refuse to order halves. But they do take all my dump's.

Someone mentioned the "they are for my dad" angle. Even better and likely to get a positive result is to tell them you want to start collecting with your kid. Of course that means you cant be too personal with them or know them too well in the sense that they may know youre lying. If you have a good personal relationship with the teller, then go the dad angle.

Eagefoot:
There are only 4 bottles there. What years are you missing? 65 and 69?

If I go to a bank looking for halves and they either ask me what they're for, or I get the feeling they might, I use this story.. it's never failed:
'I need them for a poker game tonight. We use them instead of plastic chips'
Try it out, let me know
Just dont show up the next day with the same halves in the same rolls looking to re-deposit haha

Yinzi50........... The bottle on the left has the 12/1964 - 90%ers in it........and the other three bottles are mixed '65-'70.. all years are represented in there numerously and some in near uncirculated condition..and these three bottles have no segregation order to them...just merely a container to stuff all 40%ers in until they don't hold anymore.....there's even more in one than another...but for now...that isn't any big deal to me.
