Chaotech, first I'd check the 74D for Doubled Die Obverse in the "RUS" of TRUST. I'd keep the 79, 78 and dump the rest. If you find 2001P or any year newer (2002-present) keep those because of low mintage and NIFC (not intended for circulation). You know about the rest -- silver clad, silvers, "S" proofs and 1987's.

Another coin run today. 7 banks; $1,430; 15 40's, 1 90. That is it till next payday.

The teller at my 'dump' bank told my wife that a local died recently and their relatives turned in rolls that the person had saved. The tellers found silver in those and kept them. They do surface.

The following post is true. No coins were hurt while searching or posting this message.

I haven't been seaching halves for a couple weeks now. My dump bank had to have their coin machine that is in their lobby repaired (probably due to all the halves I was dumping) so I had let my supply banks know that it would be a few weeks before I would be back for halves. I ordered Monday and got my first box this morning.

I searched a $500 box and found:

2-1982 no FG on reverse
1-1974d DDO
1-1973d DDO (I'm pretty sure..will have pics on the varieties thread soon
1-1974d Gold plated half (wear on the high points make it two-tone LOL)
1-1964 90%ers
112-1965-1969 40%ers

Only 2 rolls were silverless and the most silver in 1 roll was 7. I averaged over 2.25 keepers per roll....and this was out of a box

When the teller handed me the box she told me that the coins looked old thru the little holes in the top....boy was she right!

So I go to my local dealer here in NJ, the new kid and the owner are roll searching through halves. They found lots of keepers, so now my interest is peeked. My father is a big client at a local bank and since I work for him, I have a good relationship with them. I email the manager and ask for 2 boxes of halves, telling her that I want to start a collection with my son. She emails me back yesterday to make sure that is how many I want, and I tell her yes. I even told her that the ones I don't need will be dumped at another bank. I get another email from her this morning asking yet again, if I really want that many half dollars and again I tell her yes. I'm hopeful as it doesn't seem my bank has had anybody ask for them yet. The funny thing is I wonder what her reaction will be when I ask for a couple more boxes when I'm done with those. I am really going to pull some out and try and fill up a folder for my son, but should I tell her that I am also pulling the silver halves out too?

Hi,
I've tried several banks here in the north east and all told me that the only halves they have are the ones a teller may have and none had any. One was a coin counting machine that you just dump all your change into and was told they send it out to the Fed who puts it in rolls, where they go from there is a guess to me. All the best on your projects, I wanted to try the cent project but my eyes are not what they use to be. Last week or so I purchased a microscope that plugs into your computer and what a difference that makes when you have to strain thru a 5x Lupe all the time.

After taking a break from half searching I worked 16 rolls today. Found 4 40%ers. I also found this in the first roll that I opened...

I think its an English Penny, it is the oldest coin I have found since I started roll searching.

Yep, an English penny all right, nothing special numismatically speaking but an incredibly cool thing to find in a roll of halves!

decoinboy, nice! I've found a Lincoln Penny stuffed in a Kennedy roll and on two other occasions a Sac. Yours is more interesting.

Results of 3 boxes I checked yesterday:

1 90%
5 40%
A magician's trick coin; it is a hollowed out 1990P Kennedy that when the reverse is removed there is a 1967 English penny attached to it. When I get my camera fixed I will post a photo of it; interesting coin!

Thanks, I was pretty siked when that coin showed up. Of all the things I would expect to find in a roll of halfs that was pretty far down on the list.
Coppernickel- cant wait to see that Magicians coin, its sounds cool.

I was making a deposit at the bank today and asked for any half dollar rolls they have, she told me they had none. The she goes are you Eric, and I told her yes. She then said that she had 2 boxes of halves for me. So I got my halves and told her to order me 2 more. The first box was discouraging, found only a few from the 60's, but the next box made me want even more. Here is what I found:

1941D - 1
1942 - 2
1944 - 1
1945 - 2
1954 - 2
1961 - 1
1964 - 6
1965-70 - 17
1976 - 1 Proof with just a touch of cameo
2002 - 1
2004 - 1
2005 - 2
1943 - 1 Australian Penny

Holy Smokes! Now that, my friends, is a box of halves! I'm gonna give my monitor a couple of good luck rubs while reading your post again in hopes it'll rub off on me. Grats!
