publius Pillar of the Community United States 807 Posts	Posted 04/18/2015 1:53 pm I don't roll-hunt, & I especially don't roll-hunt cents, but I've noticed something about the cents I take in change that I suspect the roll-hunters could confirm. Now, I live in a major metropolitan area which has its own Federal Reserve Bank, so I like to imagine the coin population here is about as typical of the country as a whole as it gets. And of the cents I take in change, it seems as though somewhere between 20% and 40% are 1982 or before, ie, bronze ; and the quantity of post-1982s more than ten years old is something less than that. Say, 50% zincs 10 years old or less, 30% bronze, remainder "old" zincs. Does that square with your experience? Report this Post to the Staff

Precious Mental Valued Member United States 61 Posts	Posted 04/18/2015 5:19 pm I picked up a $25.00 box of cents a few months ago, to go through with my Grandson. We found 18 wheat cents, and I would say that of the rest, 35% were pre-1983. They were in a Brinks box. Report this Post to the Staff

My dad ran into a buddy of his from work several years back and we got on the discussion of CRHing. He mentioned that he goes through cents for copper and has several 25-50lb buckets of them. I have my mini copper hoard (15 or so rolls from change; hey, I like getting change back) Every brinks box of cents I open usually has over 40% of it being coppers. I've had as much as 40 copper cents in one roll. Sometimes it'll be 50%. They seem to concentrate out here. Other cities; not so much. Report this Post to the Staff

For CWRs, it can vary especially if folks have kept the older stuff. That said, I've picked up 100% copper for CWRs. As for the Zincolns, the shear volume in mintages over the past few years raise the likelihood that a Zincoln will be newer. Report this Post to the Staff

Couldn't explain why. Also, I noticed that older (1983-1989) zincolns seem to be a lot more plentiful than intermediate (1990-2004) ones. Report this Post to the Staff
