Hello,

I am looking for books on the subject of coin counterfeiting. I know that Swamperbob released a good one but are there also any other books which I could check out. I think Swamperbob himself could help me out on this one but I'm not allowed to send pm's yet and a topic would also benefit other users. My main collecting domain is situated within Europe (Belgium, France, Germany) so maybe there are some books with a focus on European coins?

Thanks!

My favorite book is by the ANA and is part of the correspondence course, sometimes available on ebay.

'Numismatic Forgery', by Charles M. Larson.
This book shows you HOW to make forged coins, and therefore what to look for, and how to to expose them, together as to how they were made.

The best fake coins are made by exactly the same methods as their originals. Anyone with access to a decent machine shop can make excellent dies for forged coins. The metal for them comes from existing authentic coins, so the XRF identification is of no use.

It is these types high quality fake coins that I have aimed most of my attention at, in order to identify them.

This book has been endorsed by (amongst others), Ken Bressett - Past President of the American Numisamtic Association ( ANA).

The searching of data bases on the 'Net is also an excellent tool for the identification of fake coins.

Swamperbob is a great guy.He understands more about counterfeits than Anyone I know after 40 years as a coin collector and 16 years as a coin dealer. He is the go to guy for any questions on counterfeits. I wish there we other good books on the subject as we need them. Louis Gouchie
