In the short run, I am thinking that the best strategy is to flip the coins immediately before demand is satisfied. If (and this is a big if) more Tha. 75k collectors want one of these dimes, they will likely stay high or even increase. That I feel is up to the makers of dime albums... empty holes create demand.
Personally, I plan to sell 2 sets to cover the cost of the third, unless I am fairly certain that I might get a 70 on one or both dimes. I didn't catch the first wave, so my opportunity of getting the "first strike" slab are pretty much shot. Still, not sure I would take the risk even if I had them in hand now.

Quote: Hmmmm... My back ordered sets weren't supposed to ship until August, but I just got notification from the mint that they have just shipped. I'm a happy camper! I also got notified yesterday that my back-ordered MoD set has been shipped, but I'm not sure if I'm happy about it. I'm worried that they are not mailing out the newly minted sets but the junk sets that were returned the past two weeks. I don't know what to do. Should I: A)Open the package and keep them. B)Open it and decide to either keep it or send it back, or C)Don't open it and just send it back. I normally don't care about the conditions of the coins I order, but getting someone else's garbage is another story. I did get the silver proof set in the mail yesterday and am very delighted with it even though it could be anywhere from PF60 to PF70 (my vision is pretty pour).

Since your 1st two options start with "open it" then there is no reason for #3...why wouldn't you open it and look at the coins before maybe returning them? BTW...the return label is inside the box

Quote: B)Open it and decide to either keep it or send it back Do this. I'm keeping the ones that look nice and sending back the ones that shouldn't have made it past QC. Spots on coins will be more noticeable 20 years from now and quality coins will be worth a premium.

You can just use the return label, but then you'll have to pay shipping back to them. If you call, they'll send you a prepaid shipping label, eventually. I just received mine today after two weeks and four calls. The way I look at it is if it's a quality issue, then they should pay the return freight. If I just changed my mind, then I should pay the return freight.

Quote: B)Open it and decide to either keep it or send it back, This is the obvious choice, mainly because it doesn't cost you anything to open them up ==> Good coins, you win; bad coins, return to the mint w/ no extra cost (just make sure you check your bank statement that they refunded you, they didn't refunded me for stuffs I returned in December/Jan of this year, I had to call them like 5 time in April and they still own me refund for 1 set of coin). There are alot of changes at the Mint w/in the last 6 months so make sure you stay on top of this.

If you call the Mint and setup a RMA, the Mint will provide a pre-paid shipping label. They did it for me, so I can return one of my MOD sets. I believe they wanted my set back to send to someone else.
I've decided to hang on it the set for now.

As of this moment, the MOD set is on Back-order status!
I was able to order another set.

Quote: Just mark it, That's what I do. I go one better. I have small preprinted labels that says, "this OGP once held an off-quality coin that was returned for refund. Please check carefully." I pry off the injection molded holder and hide the label in an unobtrusive nook and replace in the case. If the Mint reuses the packaging it will be eventually be found by another customer. I don't think Novitek/PBGS sent out returned products in the past, but PSFWeb might have a mandate to do so by the Mint to save money and/or part of their contracted services.
