publius Pillar of the Community United States 807 Posts	Posted 05/05/2015 7:24 pm A button, yes, I think. Possibly used similarly to a cuff-link, rather than sewn onto a piece of clothing. Old types of button often seem very clumsy to modern eyes — remember they were meant to be manipulated with a buttonhook, not by hand.
