Just made quite a big investment and picked up this lot for a whopping £30.

In this lot is a very rare example of a Leo I monogram with a cross bar on the E. This makes the monogram LEONTIVS and is perhaps a usurper (or, perhaps, this is a specialised monogram also issued for Leo). Hoard evidence puts this issue at a later date to Leo's reign, but no coin with a sufficient obverse legend has turned up to say for certain whether the issue is Leontius.

Leontius

I doubt there will be aything legible on this coin's obverse.

Also in the lot is a nice Marcian and a Leo/Verina.

With that U looking thing under that first vertical line I'm more inclined to say that it is Zeno (there is also probably a hidden O at the top of the T as well).

You are correct, it may be a Zeno. This is a risk I'm willing to take - ive not found any example of Zeno with these bars on it - both the 3rd bar on E, the full cross for the Z (which would be T for Leontius) and the hooked U bottom thing. If it were to be Zeno, I wouldnt be too bothered, as it would still be an interesting piece (I dont have a Zeno monogram yet, either).

Good spotting.
I have been trying to pay attention more of late to monograms. I bought a small lot awhile back and am still waiting for the post to make good.
Patience is not easy !
