Coins from an inherited collection returned from grading and I'm trying to decide which to keep of the "duplicates". I'd like to keep the "better" coin, and I'm trying to "keep the coin, not the slab". I will post the grades later.

How would you grade these two, and which do you like more?

(A)

Two-$20-Gaudens:-Grades?-Which-Is-

Two-$20-Gaudens:-Grades?-Which-Is-

(B)

Two-$20-Gaudens:-Grades?-Which-Is-

Thanks for the help! Any comments welcome.

Personally I'd keep the first one. Looks nicer with less scratches. Love the design on these gems!

The first one looks a bit nicer with less bagging.

The first one all day. I'd say that's a solid 65. Maybe even a low 66. The 2nd one looks high 64

First one. It appear to have a stronger strike. I'll tell you what, just send me whatever one you don't want!

First one has a much nicer strike and less chatter,
(and better color if pics were taken under similar conditions).
Looks 64-65 from here, very nice example!

I'd say first one. I'll give you $20 for the one you don't want

I'd go with #1 as well. It appears ~1 point better than #2 and has a shot at 66. #2 is a darn nice Saint and almost a gem but looks a touch short of 65.

Thanks for all the feedback. It looks unanimous, and you guys are good and I'm very impressed. The first coin (A) was recently graded by NGC, MS65. It previously had an old photo certification from ANACS with grade MS64/62, from the late 1980's I believe, which I have retained. The second coin (B) is in an old NGC slab ("No Line Fattie" I think) with grade MS60. I had posted it earlier on the forum and learned that it would grade higher by today's standards.

I was inclined to keep the 1924 but I just wanted to check with you folks. Thanks! Hrmmmm...so who do I send the 1927 to? I guess matttheriley was the first to offer to take it.

Even though the more common, the 1924 is plainly the superior coin. Its' faults are mostly reserved to the reverse, which is a strong point in its' favor, as is the superior strike.
