I knew this was going to happen. It is a 1983 copper penny.

CM - happy...and sad for you. I think we've all experienced this to one degree or another, but this has me shaking my head too. Congrats to your dedication - sorry it didn't shake out better.

Did you weigh it, looks like a zinc rim?

If its copper, I hope you didn't do that.

Wow!

Amazing find!

I figure when I find my 1969-Ss Doubled die it will look just like that.

Still a great find, in any condition!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there are more 1943 coppers extant than 1983's. Unless more have shown up in the last two years, if real this is the third known. As in, it belongs on the front page of Coin Week.

Think your right Dave and they were worth 10's of thousands-you need to weigh that if you really think it is one

And Dave's right - I'm kind of surprised at most of the ho-hum responses in here. If it's real IT'S A 1983 COPPER CENT OMG! Um, newspaper headlines, front page articles, thousands of dollars.. any of these things sound like fun?

Looking hard at the reverse, I don't see any zinc. Please do weigh it and let us know

Guess he fell asleep but he needs to weigh it-I sure hope for him he found one but the damage alone on both sides seems suspect in itself

Would you be sleeping if you found one?

No! Lol but if it did come back the proper weight I still wouldn't get too excited for fear of a major letdown-if the weights legit then the real test begins
