Other than a couple of 19th century proofs, where the mintage is several hundred, my business strike coin with the lowest mintage (3990) is the 1870 $10. It's not rare, however -- a high percentage must have survived.

There were 34,920 of the 1866-S Motto half eagles minted but PCGS says less than 100 survive. Of course, this particular example seems to have BARELY survived.....

I feel like we just had a similar thread on this not too long ago, but I can't find it... My rarest coin right now is this 1910 proof Barber dime, with a mintage of only 551:

Nothing under 1 Million for me, but I do have an 1882 CC MS64 Morgan with a mintage of 1.1 million. Close enough.

One of the lowest mintage coins I can remember ever being sold here on CCF was a member about 4 or 5 years ago listed an 1856 flying cent for sale. I don't remember who that member was but if I recall correctly he specialized in collecting key date coins for investment purposes. Wish he would show up and post some pictures.

1864 proof dime. Mintage of 470. Most have likely survived. Business strikes I have wth an estimated survival around 1,000 each. One's an 1843 Half Dime and the other is an 1859 quarter.

1878-CC Trade dollar; 97,000 minted. It's in tough shape, black highlights and gouges (which don't appear to be chop marks) on the obverse and reverse. It came down from my grandfather whom I never knew.

Mainly collecting by type, most all my coins are the most common dates that are available. If I have a key or a semi-key date it is just by chance. Proof-1879 25c PR-62 mintage of 1,100( rather high mintage for proof). Business strike-1866S $2.50 VF25 mintage of 38,960.

Since the topic title is "What is the rarest US issued coin you own?", I've decided to be rebel and post a modern 1931 S LWCMintage: 866,000
