Low mintage and rare are not necessarily one in the same. I have a low mintage 1887 Three Cents nickel and two of the 1880's Liberty Seated half dollars, with mintages of 5,000, 8,400 and 12,001 respectively, yet none of them are rare.

I'd have to say my XF-details holed with solder 1852-C Quarter Eagle original mintage was 9,772. Without the hole and solder it would have been priced at about 5 times what I paid for it.

This isn't technically mine, but was inherited by my parents with several other gold pieces, and as the only numismatist in the family, it will be mine eventually. Quarter Eagle, 1856-C, mintage 7,913.

Rarest in terms of production (350,000) / survival rate (10,000) I have, I think, is my "King of Carson City" the 1889-cc Morgan. But don't hold me to it, I'm not that organized

Thanks for everyone's posts!
I definitely have a few favorites, like that 1868 quarter (of which I have a Proof 64 Cameo version), 1872-CC quarter, 1864 2¢ Proof (I'm so jealous as that's one coin I would like to obtain one day), 1856 ½¢ PROOF(Killer and quite rare! I'd love to own a pre-1858 Proof myself), and the 1910 10¢ Proof.
If I didn't mention your coin, don't take that to heart. I love all coins! I just have some personal fav's that I wouldn't mind having in my own collection.
And, there are some of those rebel posts. I really like the Pine Tree Shilling, but technically that's not a U.S. coin, but rather a Colonial. However, I think it still counts! :)
Also, some points of clarifications are needed:
Tbone, it's not likely that most of the 1864 Proof mintage survived. A decent amount do (and I'd have to check the Breen book to see if any were melted without being released).
In the spirit of the thread, I wasn't aiming at including errors or grade rarities as each of those are a different class to themselves. Of course, you guys can post whatever you'd like!
This might seem controversial to say, but I'm not aware of many modern rarities (post 1932). There are errors like 1942/1 dimes, 1955 double die, but I'm unaware of any regularly issued series (business strike or Proof) Mint coin that is even scarce. Technically, based on tables I've seen in the past, I believe for a coin to be considered scarce there has to be less than a 1,000 survivors and rare there would be less than 100. Notice, I asked for the "rarest" coin you have, so it's totally okay to show off a coin where 100,000+ survive; it's just the coin is far from rare.

I agree that low mintage and rare are not the same but will go with the low mintage I see posted most often in this thread. I have a 1922 no D Lincoln but don't know if anyone has ever determined how many of these were produced. 1857 Half Cent 35K minted but not rare as I didn't pay much.

So lowest mintage or rarest? Lowest mintage its this little girl just 10,800 minted. 1883-P Indian Princess gold dollar. Prethen I've been looking for a business strike 1883 3CN. they are hard to find. Your specimen is a beauty!

Wizzy, thanks....1883 is about as hard as 1887 to find in business strike. That photo is not that great but the coin is an AU and I hope I can get it in a "good holder" when I send it in for grading in the near future.

No picture, but my rarest coin is my 1912-S Liberty V nickel only 238,000 made. I thinks it's an under-appreciated low volume coin.
