Quote: Got the email notifying me the coin was on sale today also............a minute after I got the email that my order was shipped. Looks like someone out there messed up. Quote: Picture of the physical coin (rather than the digital image on the mint's website):
Personally: I think the physical final product looks better than the digital images posted on the mint's website. I agree. I like it even more. Thank you for posting.

They were listed... and the listing was cancelled... So far it looks like there have been about 10 of these sold on ebay... it appears the demand really isn't there either.

I wouldn't think there would be a huge demand for a coin that's still available direct from the mint at a lesser price.

I received my 2015 high relief gold $100 coin today. While the design and high relief looks great, I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed. Never before have I received an uncirculated coin directly from the mint that has so much die polishing evident. It looks like somebody went to down on both dies with low grit sand paper. I'm pretty shocked that this is what they find acceptable. I'm pretty sure it's going back. I just don't like feeling ripped off.

Die polishing lines look like hairlines but are raised on the coins surface because they were polished into the die. They are (unfortunately) quite common.

Ah, gotcha. Well, mine is supposed to arrive sometime today (assuming I hear the doorbell and the UPS guy doesn't just leave a note). I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

Quote: What, exactly, does this mean? It basically looks like someone took a fine sanding disc to the flat surface of the coin. The high areas are not impacted. I have bullion (in other words, not even collector grade) coins from all over the world and have never seen a modern gold coin with so much die polishing evident. It was immediately apparent to the naked eye when I first looked at it. Under magnification, it's just unbelievable. Either the person doing the polishing did a poor job or the dies were used well past when they should have. BTW, the coin on the previous page looks great to me. I am very curious to know the quality that others have received.

Although it looks like it was struck with polished dies that were polished some, your coin looks much better than mine.

Yeah, I'm very happy with mine. If your coin looks significantly different, Bret, you should definitely consider sending it back.

I want to say thanks to mrpapageorgio and barryg for sharing their own photos. I really like the reverse all the more seeing actual images. The obverse still doesn't grab me but is better than some of the proposed designs.
I still won't be rushing to buy this coin as I have other areas I'm focusing on.
