That's a gorgeous coin. I'll be curious to find out more details when they're released.

Is it true they are making a silver medal too?

Looks great! It will be interesting to learn the mintages and packaging offerings. I'd like to get a proof and an UNC.

Is this replacing the annual St Gaudens and Buffalo designs? Or is this just a one-off?

Quote: Yes, though the design has not been announced. Here is some info on the silver metal. As usual almost all of those designs look horrible. The HR-19-O-M looks like a poor knockoff of a Walking Liberty half and a St Gaudens double eagle. HR-R-07-M looks like a direct rip off of the Indian half eagle and eagle from the early 1900's. I guess you have to give them a little credit from trying to pay "homage" to some classic designs.

I just checked the Mints website and the current price of the 1 ounce Gold Eagle is $1510 so if the PM market holds at the current prices the gold one would be AT LEAST the same price pricing it out of a lot of collectors budget especially given the 2016 classic reissues in gold or platinum shortly after the Dec. release of the high relief and anyone who wants to "invest" in the Jacqueline Kennedy first spouse gold.

I like the gold one. I will never be able to afford it, but I will drool over those posted here when people show them. I will have to keep my eye on the silver one. Now that I am not afraid of silver medals, it may be in my future.

The gold piece has extremely high technical excellence. Artwork reasonably good.
